Checking the validity of a Certificate
There are many methods you can use to check a validity of a certificate (for example your own certificate).

You should not rely on a certificate if it has expired or has been revoked. Where a certificate has expired, the operational life of the certificate has ended and neither the RA or the CA makes any representations regarding who is using the certificate (indeed the certificate owner is obliged to stop using the certificate). Where a certificate has been revoked, there was a reason why the certificate was prematurely marked as being inoperable. For example someone other than the certificate holder may have had access to the certificate's private key.

  • To check all Gatekeeper certificates issued by VeriSign use the LDAP Directory

To check the validity of certificates, software can usually be configured to either check certificate revocation lists (CRLs) or our online certificate status protocol (OCSP) responder.

Download our CRL for: To send an enquiry to our OCSP responder see the relevant certificate policy or certificate for the location of the relevant responder.
