VeriSign Gatekeeper: Customs Digital CertificatesCertificate SearchChecking the validity of a Certificate There are many methods you can use to check a validity of a certificate (for example your own certificate). You should not rely on a certificate if it has expired or has been revoked. Where a certificate has expired, the operational life of the certificate has ended and neither the RA or the CA makes any representations regarding who is using the certificate (indeed the certificate owner is obliged to stop using the certificate). Where a certificate has been revoked, there was a reason why the certificate was prematurely marked as being inoperable. For example someone other than the certificate holder may have had access to the certificate's private key.
