Customs: ABN-DSC Digital Certificate

What are ABN-DSC certificates?

Australian Business Number-Digital Signature Certificates (ABN-DSCs) are suitable for organisations, which require Gatekeeper certificates in the course of their business. Any organisation with a valid ABN can apply for an ABN-DSC. An ABN-DSC is equivalent to a Non-Individual Grade 2 certificate.

There are two types of ABN-DSC certificates; Authorised Officer ABN-DSCs and Standard ABN-DSCs.

What is an Authorised Officer ABN-DSC?

An Authorised Officer has the authority to request Symantec to issue certificates to other members of an organisation. When applying for ABN-DSC certificates you must appoint at least one Authorised Officer. Authorised Officers are required to undergo a personal identification check.

What is a Standard ABN-DSC?

A Standard certificate is the same as an Authorised Officer certificate, however, applicants are not required to undergo a personal identification check. An organisation's Authorised Officer is responsible for validating an applicant's identity before requesting Symantec to issue a certificate.

Deploying Gatekeeper certificates is easier with ABN-DSCs
  • For Individual and Non-Individual certificates each applicant must undergo a personal identification check. With ABN-DSCs only your Authorised Officers undergo a personal identification check.
  • You do not need to go through the organisation identification check each time you enrol for a certificate. This is done when you set up your ABN-DSC account.
  • Once your ABN-DSC account is set up, enrolling for additional certificates is easy and your ABN and organisation name are pre-populated in the enrolment forms.
